Khan stays ahead in Mallorca Classic

PULA, Oct 16: Overnight leader Simon Khan of Britain retained his lead in the Mallorca Classic after the second round was completed on Saturday.

Khan shot a six-under-par 64 on Friday for a two-round total of 130 to take a three-shot lead over tournament favourite Sergio Garcia, Garcia's Spanish compatriot Carlos Rodiles and Swede Fredrik Andersson.

None of the 24 players who had to return to the course on Saturday morning as a result of Thursday's two first-round suspensions because of lightning affected the leaderboard.

ONE-SHOT LEAD

GREENSBORO (North Carolina): Brent Geiberger shot a five-under-par 67 to take a one-shot lead after the second round of the $4.6 million Greensboro Classic at Forest Oaks Country Club on Friday.

Currently ranked 144th on the PGA Tour money list, Geiberger moved to 11 under-par for the tournament when he sunk a 22-foot birdie putt, his fifth of the day, on the last hole to move clear of Jeff Brehaut, David Toms and Tom Pernice Jr, Jerry Kelly, Joe Ogilvie, Jason Dufner, Tom Lehman and Bo Van Pelt are in a tie for fifth at nine-under-par.

Geiberger's only Tour victory came at the 1999 Canon Greater Hartford Open but he has yet the make the top-10 this season, with his best finish a tie for 14th at the Valero Texas Open.

In his first two rounds Geiberger has recorded 11 birdies and no bogeys to lead for the first time in a PGA Tour event since the opening round of the 2001 Buick Invitational where he finished tied for fifth.

With the cut made at three-under-par, 70 professionals and amateur Ryan Moore qualified for the weekend.

Moore, the US Amateur champion and a senior at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas shot a three-under-par 69 to move into a tie for 12th place at seven-under-par.

Defending champion Shigeki Maruyama of Japan fired a two-under-par 70 to finish a further shot back.

Of the top 17 players at the halfway mark, only David Toms with his win at the FedEx St Jude Classic has a victory on the PGA Tour in 2004.
