KARACHI, Oct 16: Pakistan Sugar Mills Association on Saturday announced that sugar mills in Sindh would start crushing from October 20.

This was announced during a high level meeting which was presided over by the Sindh Chief Minister, Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim and attended amongst others by State Minister, Muhammad Ali Malkani, Sindh Agriculture Minister, Muhammad Arif Mustafa Jatoi, provincial agriculture secretary, Sabhago Khan Jatoi, cane commissioner, Sindh, Nazar Muhammad Baloch, chairman, Pakistan Sugar Mills Association, Ch Zaka Ashraf, members of Sugar Mills Association, President, Sindh Agriculture Chamber, Syed Qamar- uz-Zaman Shah and President, Sindh Abadgar Board, Haji Abdul Majeed Nizamani.

The meeting also decided to take up the cane and sugar prices issue with the Federal Government.

Sindh Chief Minister assured that he would soon meet Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz to settle this issue to the satisfaction of all stakeholders.

Sindh Cane Commissioner informed the meeting that Khairpur Sugar Mills, Sindh Abadgar Sugar Mills, Ansari Sugar Mills along with some other sugar mills would begin their operations by Oct 20 while Najma Sugar Mills had already started crushing.

The Chief Minister promised to give incentives to those mills, which start crushing by October 20.

Representatives of Sugar Mills Association thanked the CM for extending his cooperation and support to them and hoped that he would soon resolve the problems of growers and sugar mills in the best interest of the province.-APP
