KARACHI: Carjacker killed in shootout

KARACHI, Oct 9: A suspected carjacker was killed and another arrested on Saturday in a shootout with police in Mehmoodabad. While, four alleged carjackers were arrested, and stolen vehicles and weapons were recovered from them in separate incidents.

Officials of the Anti Car-Lifting Cell said a car AGB-904 was snatched at gunpoint in Clifton on Saturday morning. The ACLC officials spotted the car near Kalapul and ordered it to stop. Instead, occupants of the car tried to escape while resorting to firing at the police.

The fire was returned, resulting in the death of a suspect, Qurban alias Sher Mohammad Markhand. His accomplice Ghulam Akbar Hasloo was arrested. Their another accomplice Anwar Brohi managed to flee. Police recovered the stolen vehicle and two TT pistols.

Meanwhile, in Korangi, the ACLC arrested Javed Bhatti near Godaam Chowrangi in Korangi along with a stolen car (GL-0286). The car was stolen on July 13, from Gulberg. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to having stolen two cars (ACH-521 and S-7810). He was involved in eight various carjacking cases.

In a raid in Saddar, the ACLC arrested a wanted carjacker Abdul Ghafoor following recovery of a stolen car (ADE-968) and a TT pistol from him.

During investigation, the suspect led the police to the recovery of another car (S-3479) from his hideout. The suspect was involved in 18 carjacking cases, the officials said.
