QUETTA, Oct 2: Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal secretary-general Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that the MMA will make all out efforts to protect the rights of minorities.

Speaking at a seminar on "Rights of minorities in Islam and Pakistan" here the other day, which was arranged by Minority MPA Dr J. Parkash, the MMA leader said Islam preaches equal rights to all and it was the responsibility of the Muslims to protect the life and property of the people in minority.

"Attack on any minority member is considered an attack on a Muslim in the Islamic society," he said.

He said Ulema were playing their role in protecting the rights of minorities in the country by giving representation to all factions in parliament and other institutions.

He urged the ministers to take care of all the minorities and give special attention to resolve their problems.

He assured that MMA would play its role for seeking more seats for the minorities in the Senate and national and provincial assemblies.

Balochistan Minister for Minorities Dr J. Parkash said the MMA was taking particle steps to protect the rights of minorities.

He demanded that the government should give minorities representation in the Senate and their seats should be increased in the national and provincial assemblies.

He also demanded increase in the development funds for minority MPAs and MNAs, as their constituency was the entire province and not only a tehsil.
