KARACHI, Oct 2: The Higher Education Commission has approved Rs35 million scheme to extend the existing facilities at Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology.

The proposal, submitted by the university, was approved by the Departmental Development Working Party of the HEC on Saturday.

The amount, in addition to its recurring and development grants, would be provided to the university during the current financial year.

The scheme has been designed to relate the objectives of the higher education sector of the country by providing quality education in all disciplines and faculties of the university at undergraduate, graduate, masters and doctorate levels.

Major objectives of the scheme include provision of internet facility, books, research journals and papers for general students, especially the youth of lower income. Besides, the scheme would ensure facilities for 100 research scholars, 350 teachers and 5,000 students of undergraduate, graduate, MPhil and PhD annually.

Under the very scheme, these facilities would also be provided to the students of evening shift. It would also provide intellectual technical incentive to those scholars who want to read for attaining knowledge of science and technology by the latest modern ways.

In addition, it would provide latest research journals, valuable books, and microfilming and internet as a continuous process. It was estimated that the scheme would benefit more than 5,000 students and 300 research scholars.-PPI
