KARACHI, Sept 25: The Asian Shippers' Council (ASC) has been launched with an objective to discuss issues of interest to present and advocate an Asian view to the international community.

This was stated by Chairman, Pakistan Shippers' Council of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Abdul Rasheed Jan Mohammed, who participated the 27th annual general meeting of the Federation of Asean Shippers' Councils (FASC) held at Singapore on September 12-14.

The ASC will serve as a platform among Asian shippers, for it is clear that Asia is emerging as a manufacturing, trading and maritime powerhouse in the global arena. The council is composed of conveners representing various groups of the region, including ASCOBIPS, Asean, China Area, North East Asia and OCEANIA.

The occasion was hosted by the Singapore National Shippers' Council, which attracted over 60 delegates from 18 shippers' councils representing 31 countries from Asia, America and Europe, making it the largest gathering of this nature.-APP
