KARACHI, Sept 25: Elections for the president and 14 seats of the managing committee of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) were held here on Saturday.

Results of the poll had not been announced till our going to press as counting was still going on.

According to a circular issued by the KCCI, the tenure of the president would be for one year as per decision taken in the managing committee meeting held on June 19.

However, the Arbitration Tribunal of the FPCCI on Friday said that the term of the KCCI president would remain for two years. The Tribunal says that as the things stand today, the amendment process is not yet completed without the approval of the competent authority.

In the absence of any decision by the Director Trade Organization confusion still prevails over the tenure of the president.

Four candidates - Khalid Tawab (BMA), Khalid Firoz Arfeen (BMG), Muzzafar Saeed and Siddique Qasim - were contesting for the KCCI chief.
