ISLAMABAD, Sep 18: Foreign Office spokesman Masood Khan said on Saturday that Pakistan and India should demonstrate flexibility and sincerity to resolve the Kashmir issue for durable peace in the region.
Pakistan had always showed seriousness and sincerity towards the resolution of the core issue of Kashmir by adopting several confidence-building measures to make the atmosphere conducive, he told PTV.
The world community had time and again advised India to decrease the number of its forces in occupied Kashmir and release the illegally detained Kashmiri leadership, he said.
He said massive human rights violations by Indian troops in held Kashmir should be stopped and India should abstain from levelling baseless allegations of infiltration against Pakistan, the spokesman said.
He said there should be an appropriate timeframe but no deadline to find out the solution of the issue.
The dialogue process should be sustained, serious and realistic.
Pakistan's stand was that the process would be meaningless without the participation of Kashmiri people, he said.
He said the Kashmir issue must be resolved according to the wishes of the region's people.
He underlined the need for vigorous efforts from both sides for resolving the issue.
The basic and important dispute between the two countries was Kashmir and with its resolution all the other outstanding issues would be settled easily, the spokesman said.
APHC: Chairman of the All-Parties Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Gillani has called upon India to fulfil its pledge and commitment on the Kashmiris' right to self- determination.
"The Indian government and leadership had made a pledge and commitment to the people of Kashmir that they will be given right to self-determination according to resolutions which India has accepted and signed, those wishes and aspirations of Kashmiris should be respected" he told BBC television.
He said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir had started freedom struggle in 1947 and they rendered a lot of sacrifices for achieving their right to self-determination.
Syed Ali Gillani said: "It is fact that India took the case of Kashmir to the UN Security Council and has signed and accepted all the resolutions passed by it."
He called upon India to implement UN resolutions.
In response to a question, he called upon India to accept the disputed nature of Jammu and Kashmir and come forward to cooperate in the implementation of UN resolutions.
"Pakistan has accepted the resolutions of UN Security Council," he added.
He said that Kashmir was the core issue between Indian and Pakistan.
"Kashmir issue is very important for the people of Kashmir as they are fighting for right to self determination from 1947 till to-date.", he added
He said: "Kashmiri people have sacrificed more than 500,000 lives for the Kashmir cause and we will fight till the last drop of blood."
"We will not accept any solution which is against the wishes of the Kashmiri people."he said.
Answering another question, he said: "Pakistani people are with the people of Kashmir morally, diplomatically and politically."-APP
