'NAB is being used against opponents'

Published September 12, 2004

ISLAMABAD, Sept 11: Former Sindh law minister Pir Mazharul Haq has said the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is being used by the military regime to victimize political opponents.

He was commenting on the conviction of his younger brother Pir Mukarramul Haq by a NAB court recently.

The PPP leader said his entire family was facing victimization at the hands of the military rulers because of its loyalty to the PPP and its Chairperson Benazir Bhutto.

He said his daughter Marvi Mazhar and sister-in-law Farzana Raja, MPA, were playing effective role in the opposition and had refused to change loyalties. "This has annoyed the military so his brother has wrongly been convicted," he maintained.

He said the days of the "illegal and unconstitutional rulers" were numbered and soon a democratic government would be in place in the country.
