SIALKOT, Aug 28: Around 100 people demonstrated at Sambrial in Daska tehsil on Saturday to register their protest against the killing of two peddlers in, what police claimed, an exchange of fire.

Asif alias Assu Maachhi and Allah Ditta were shot dead by the police at Khairatpura-Sambrial locality on Friday.

The protesters, including the families and relatives of the two deceased, blocked traffic on the main Sialkot-Sambrial-Wazirabad Road for about one and-a-half hour by placing burnt tyres.

The heirs of the deceased chanted slogans against the police who, they said, had killed the two by staging a fake encounter to oblige their rivals. They demanded stern action against the raiding team.

However, Sialkot DPO Nisar Ahmad Saroya negotiated with the protesters, who dispersed on the assurance that action would be taken against the officials found guilty.

On the other hand, Daska ASP Nasir Aftab denied the charges and said Sambrial police raided Asif's hideout to arrest some drug traffickers. He said the inmates opened fire on the police team, which responded effectively and shot dead two of them.

The ASP said the deceased were already declared proclaimed offenders for their involvement in cases of narcotics. Further investigation was under way.

GRANT: Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has sanctioned a special grant of Rs40 million to save fields in Sialkot's villages from erosion caused by continuous changing of Aik drain.

This was stated by DCO Syed Tahir Raza Naqvi while speaking at an open kutchery at Oora village on Saturday. He said the drain would be bricklined.

Local villagers told the officials that hundreds acres of agricultural land had been eroded in Gurhi, Oora, Mallu Chhit, Bhaago Bhithey, Saddray, Karloop and Wahgraan villages due to continuous changing of the drain's course.

Later, MPA Chaudhry Khush Akhtar Subhani (a former minister) and the DCO visited these villages and reviewed the situation. The MPA said cleanliness and desilting of Bhaid drain near the Rangers' headquarters would be completed before the next rainy season.CASE: Daska Saddar police have registered a case against two persons, who had allegedly killed their father on Friday at Lorhiki-Daska village over property.

Muhammad Arshad and Muhammad Imran had stabbed their father Muhammad Boota, 50, to death after developing differences with him.
