ISLAMABAD, Aug 14: Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Saturday vowed to wipe out terrorism as a PML politician said security agencies had thwarted a plot to sabotage Independence Day celebrations and an attack on two cabinet ministers.
Speaking at the official flag hoisting ceremony marking 57th Independence Day of the country, Shujaat Hussain said Pakistan had got independence after numerous sacrifices which reminded us that our country was sacred to us than anything else.
"Inshallah (God willing), we will wipe out terrorism from our midst so that Pakistan becomes a haven of peace and security," said the premier.
"During the last few years a conspiracy has been afoot to involve our dear homeland in terrorism, but we are facing the situation with great courage and strength."
The prime minister said the nation would render every sacrifice for the sovereignty and security of the country.
"We exist if Pakistan exists. Pakistan is our identity, our belief and our faith," said the prime minister.
"We have to prove to the world that we are a vibrant nation and would not hesitate from rendering any sacrifice for the country's sovereignty and security."
"Lets move forward together, put an end to politics of hypocrisy and begin to tolerate difference of opinions," Shujaat Hussain said, adding that the provinces also needed to advance with a greater cohesion of thought and a feeling of brotherhood.
He said Pakistan had to its credit numerous achievements in different areas since its creation. However, the nation still had a long way to go and had to strictly adhere to the golden principles of unity, faith and discipline, he added.
"We have to prove that under no circumstances, we will let our national dignity and pride be blemished and will continue to pursue Islamic values in a true manner."
Earlier, the prime minister unfurled the flag of Pakistan and joined the nation in singing the national anthem.
Children from different schools sang national songs as hundreds others waved green and white flags.-Agencies
