15 killed in bus accident

DEHRADUN, July 31: Fifteen people were killed and three injured on Saturday when a bus skidded off a mountain road and plunged into a river in Uttaranchal, police said.

The accident occurred in Srinagar, in Pauri district, about 150 kilometres north of Uttaranchal's state capital Dehradun, said local police chief Sanjay Gunjal.

"The bus just dropped into the fast flowing Alaknanda river in Srinagar. At least 15 people died in the accident. Rescuers managed to pull some survivors out of the river... three passengers are seriously injured," said Gunjal.-AFP
