ISLAMABAD, July 22: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal president Qazi Hussain Ahmed, on Thursday said that the nation must protest if General Pervez Musharraf violated the constitution which required him to shed his military uniform before December 31.

Talking to newsmen at the Parliament House cafeteria on Thursday, Qazi Hussain said: "In our opinion not only the opposition should rally to end the military rule in the country but even those politicians who are in the government should join hands with us."

He said the nation must take notice of any violation of the constitution.

He said all institutions in the country should also make it clear to the "concerned quarters" that they were not going to spare anyone who violated the pledge made under a constitutional amendment.

Responding to a query aboutdemands being made by various quarters about the setting up of a national commission to probe the Kargil conflict, the MMA leader said he had doubts that any such commission would be impartial.

"Let General Musharraf put his army chief's uniform aside and then ask for such commissions," he remarked, adding: "In my opinion though the Kargil operation failed in achieving its objectives, it was not wrong in its spirit. More of such operations should be initiated, and the army should take a more aggressive stance on Kashmir."

Qazi Hussain said: "I am advocating an aggressive policy on Kashmir on the grounds that India does not appear to be coming to terms over the Kashmir issue with Pakistan in the ongoing process between the two countries."

Asked about the alliance's response to the amendments introduced by PPP Parliamentarians in the Hudood laws, he said: "Amendments or no amendments, Islam does not allow killing of any person on the basis of honour. This menace of killing of individuals in violation of the law of the land and in the name of honour must be stopped."
