KARACHI, July 17: Zone-II Whites qualified for the semifinals of the KCCA Under-19 Inter-zonal cricket tournament with Ali Asad hitting an unbeaten century here on Friday.

Ali Asad struck 11 boundaries to help Zone-II White reach 219 for four in their quarterfinal tie at the KCCA Stadium. He was ably supported by Hammad Khan who hit 58 that included three fours.

Zone-V Whites, in reply, mustered 153 in 45.2 overs with off-spinner Shamir Khattak taking four for 33 and paceman Zeeshan Ali three for 21.

The other emphatic winners were Zone-I Whites who thrashed Zone-III Whites by eight wickets at the TMC ground. Off-spinner Asad Butt and slow left-armer Sajjad Hussain Mirza each claimed four wickets as Zone-III Whites were shot out for 89 in 35.2 overs.

Leg-spinner Imran Bashir captured five for 32 to steer Zone-III Blues into the semifinals with a narrow two-wicket win against Zone-VII Whites at the Asifabad Sports ground.

Zone-VI Whites also notched up an identical victory when they defeated Zone-IV Whites off the final delivery of the high-scoring match at the Student Sports ground.

Asadullah Sumairi made 97, including 11 fours, as Zone-IV Whites scored 245 for seven while batting first.

Zone-IV Whites reached their target thanks to good contributions by Sarfraz Ahmed (79 with seven fours) and Shaharyar Ghani (68 with five fours).

ZONE-I WHITES 94-2 in 18.4 overs (Mohammad Munawwar 40 not out, Asad Shafiq 38 not out; Shakir Ali 2-28).

ZONE-VI Whites beat Zone-IV Whites by two wickets.

ZONE-IV WHITES 245-7 in 50 overs (Asadullah Sumairi 97, Fahad Iqbal 30, Saad Siddiqui 27; Misbah Khan 3-67, Saeed Khan 2-44);

Zone-VI WHITES 246-8 in 50 overs (Sarfraz Ahmed 79, Shaharyar Ghani 68, Mohammad Sohail 26; Fawad Alam 4-82, Tufail Ahmed 3-58).

Zone-III Blues beat Zone-VII Whites by two wickets.
