VEHARI, July 17: The power supply from seven feeders was restored to Vehari town on Saturday, a press release issued by Mepco's Vehari circle claimed.

Mepco chief engineer Salahuddin and Vehari circle SE Shafqat Asghar Tahir said 90 per cent work on the installation of new 17 panels had been completed at grid station's control room.

They said that the new 132 KV transformer had reached Vehari and would be installed in a few days. They claimed that the power supply from other seven feeders of tehsil would soon be restored.

However, our correspondent said three localities of the town -- Muslim Town, Sharqi Colony and three-marla Housing Scheme 11/WB - were still without electricity till the filing of this report at 8pm on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Vehari DCO Muhammad Ayub Qazi also visited the grid station and inspected the ongoing repair work.

The Mepco had also arranged power supply to some affected areas from 220 KV grid station located on Khanewal Road.

The seven feeders where the power supply had been restored were: City Feeder One, Noor Shah Feeder, Crescent Feeder, Bilal Feeder, Water Works Feeder, Thingi Colony Feeder and Taimoor Shaheen Colony Feeder.

Meanwhile, a three-member inquiry team reached Vehari and met various staff members and officials at the grid station.

According to them, one week will be required to complete the inquiry and dig out the real causes of fire at the grid station.

However, a release issued by Wapda from Lahore still claimed that the power supply to Vehari town and adjoining areas was normalized at 6pm on Friday.
