QUETTA, July 10: The President of Supreme Court Bar Association, Mr Tariq Mahmood, has asked the government to strictly uphold principles laid down in the judges' case regarding the promotion of judges in top courts as favouritism in the elevation of judges would negate justice.

In a statement issued here on Saturday he announced that a joint action committee of the lawyers would meet on July 18 in Lahore and discuss all important issues specially the elevation of judges in the supreme court which he said had been intentionally delayed to promote interests of certain quarters.

The SCBA President alleged that the Punjab government did not want incumbent Chief Justice of the Punjab High Court to be changed in the elevation of judges for the Supreme Court, and alleged that Punjab government wanted the present Chief Justice of Punjab to be retained him as the CJ at any cost.

Mr Tariq warned that personal likes and dislikes in the promotion of judges for the Supreme Court would have negative repercussions on the judiciary as the people would lose trust in judiciary.
