LAHORE, July 10: The Privilege Committee of the Punjab Assembly on Saturday directed capital city police officer (CCPO) Tariq Salim Dogar to look into the conduct of Gujranwala Model Town circle DSP Younas Bhatti and report in the next meeting of the body.

The committee, which met with Malik Nazar Farid Khokhar in the chair, took up three privilege motions against police -- one each of Ashraf Kamboh, Lt-Col Muhammad Abbas (retired) and Iftikhar Chachar.

Mr Kamboh had said he along with MPAs Lala Shakilur Rahman and Saudul Hasan had gone to the Model Town police station to visit Gujranwala Naib Nazim who was detained there.

They were not allowed to enter the station though he had sent his visiting cards to the SHO and the DSP, he said. He alleged that DSP Bhatti was present in his office but he avoided to meet them.

DSP Bhatti told the committee under oath that he was not present in his office at that time.

MPA Zahid Pervez, a witness in the case, however belied the DSP's assertion. He claimed that he was sitting in the DSP's office when Mr Kamboh and other MPAs were waiting outside.

Mr Kamboh alleged ASI Shafqatullah was also present in the police station but he too did not bother to meet them and instead sent a message through a subordinate that he was absent.

Mr Abbas had in his motion alleged that he along with supporters was coming from Shakargarh when the area police station SHO halted them and seized licenced weapons they were carrying with them.

He alleged that the police twisted facts in the FIR by "recovering" arms from companions of the licence-holders.

The committee sought service record of the SHO as well as of those nominated in the FIR.

In Chachar's case, the privilege committee directed the Sheikhupura DIG to probe the conduct of the Okara DSP (investigation) who denied that he had misbehaved with the MPA when the latter visited him in his office.

It also sought the service record of the DSP as the MPA levelled corruption charges against him.
