KARACHI, June 25: The officials of city government's health department and Environment Protection Agency will join hands to monitor and ensure the safe disposal of infected hospital waste.

A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting held under the chairmanship of DCO Mir Hussain Ali on Friday.

It was decided that private and public sector hospitals would be asked to ensure the use of their incinerators, adding an awareness campaign needs to be started in this regard.

It was decided that if hospitals do not take measures in this respect, action would be taken against them under the Environmental Protection Act.

The meeting decided to make town health officers as co-ordinators, while EDO Health would function as liaison officer for major hospitals.

It was also decided that efforts towards this direction would be carried out through co-ordination with CDGK's Municipal Environmental Cell, established on the directive of city nazim.

The meeting was attended by DG EPA Yubus Dhaga, EDO Health Fazal Elahi, DO Co-ordination Mukarram Sultan Bukhari, director, Environment Protection Cell Iqbal Nafees and others.-APP
