HYDERABAD, June 5: Sindh health secretary Ashiq Memon has said that a monitoring committee headed by the district nazim has been constituted to improve the supply of water to the city.

He told a news conference at the circuit house on Saturday that MPAs/MNAs, taluka nazims, DCO, officials of WASA, health department, Unicef and WHO were nominated as members of the committee which would meet every week.

Mr Memon said that the committee would be notified by the Sindh government soon and added that another supervisory committee would be formed to oversee the monitoring committee.

He was satisfied with the performance of the health department officials regarding treatment of gastroenteritis patients in hospitals.

He said that Unicef and WHO would provide chlorine tablets to monitoring committee and added that Sindh coordinator of the National Programme for Family Planning and Primary Health Care, Majeed Chuttho, would utilize services of 900 lady health workers for educating people at their door steps about use of chlorine tablets and boiling of water.

He said that the district Nazim had been assured that the district government's funds utilized to meet emergency situation would be reimbursed to it.

Executive Director, National Institute of Health, Islamabad, Dr Athar Saeed Dil; Sindh chief, Unicef, Rana Syed; provincial officer, health and nutrition, Unicef, Dr Asif Aslam; and WHO's representative in Sindh, Dr Ghulam Nabi Kazi, attended the meeting.
