KOHAT, May 15: The DIG Kohat region has said lawyers can play an important role in providing justice to the people and elimination of crime from society.

He was speaking at a welcome party hosted in his honour by the Kohat District Bar Association here on Friday.

Abdul Majeed Marwat said the lawyers and police together could help ensure speedy justice to the people and remove social evils. He said it was the foremost duty of the police to protect lives and property of the people.

He vowed to make Kohat a peaceful district.

SSP Dr Ishtiaq Marwat in his speech highlighted the responsibilities of police under the Police Order 2002, and urged lawyers to help make society free of evils.

He claimed that the Kohat police had started a campaign against the menace of kidnapping for ransom, gambling, drug trafficking, smuggling and dacoits.

The police official also mentioned the efforts under way to improve the role and image of police.

Syed Shujauddin Wasti, president of Kohat Bar, in his address assured the police of their full support and help. He appreciated their efforts for curbing crimes.

Senior advocate Aurangzeb Khan on the occasion asked the DIG and the SSP to check traffic violations in the city and take steps to change the thana culture. The function was also attended by DSP city Quresh Khan and office-bearers of the Kohat Bar and a large number of lawyers.
