SANGHAR, May 14: A case has been registered against federal communications minister Babar Ghouri and some other people for allegedly storming a polling station, attacking polling staff, tearing ballot papers and trying to take ballot boxes away.

The FIR under section 353, 504, 506/2, 171-F, 342, 147, 148 and 149 of the PPC was lodged by the TPO of Sanghar, Riaz Ahmed Soomro, with the Tando Adam police station on May 12.

The DIG of Hyderabad range, Syed Mushtaq Shah, visited Sanghar on Friday to inquire into the case.

On May 12, during by-elections for the NA-236 Sanghar-III seat, some polling agents complained about rigging at the Kamal Buriro polling station. The message was communicated to the federal minister who was in Sanghar district to monitor the elections.

It was alleged that Mr Ghouri, accompanied by personnel of Motorway and Karachi police, his bodyguards and some civilians stormed the women's polling station. They were accused of beating the polling staff and polling agents of the joint candidate of the Pakistan Muslim League and People's Party Parliamentarians, Liaquat Ali Mari.
