ISLAMABAD, June 1: Former chairman of the Senate, Waseem Sajjad, on Saturday urged the world community to focus Kashmir issue and said it is the root cause of tension between Pakistan and India.

Talking to newsmen at airport before leaving for Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and Turkey as a special envoy of President Gen Pervez Musharraf, he said: “There is a great concern for many countries of the world regarding heightened tension that exists with the border of India and on the Line of Control of Kashmir.”

He said the reason for the concern was that over a million soldiers were facing each other and recently India had moved its air force to forward location and installed missiles targeting Pakistan.

The special envoy said there was no doubt “it is a great concern for the entire world.”

About his visit, he said: “The purpose of the visit is to tell our friends that Pakistan is not responsible for this tension and only Indian leadership developed this anxiety in the region due to their internal reasons.”

“Pakistan does not want war and our leadership has assured the world repeatedly in this regard,” he said.

“All differences and issues should be resolved through negotiations and war is not a solution of any dispute,” Waseem Sajjad remarked.

He said: “I will convey to the leadership of Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and Turkey that the only reason of present tension is the Kashmir issue which remained unresolved after over 50 years of partition.”

“Kashmir issue is on the agenda of the United Nations and world powers should focus on defusing the Pakistan-India tension by resolving the core issue immediately,” he urged.

He said: “The world community has ignored this issue so now time has come that the world should focus on it to find a peaceful solution of the problem which should be acceptable to the people of Kashmir.”

“Once that happens it would be good for the world, good for the region and good for the people of India, Pakistan and Kashmir,” he said.

He said: “India has created war situation at the border and the LoC only because of its internal situation but I want to make it very clear that the armed forces and the entire nation is ready to face such a challenge if war is imposed by India.”—APP
