NEW DELHI, April 2: Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee said on Friday there was no way to resolve problems other than through peaceful means in the age of atom bombs.

"Our policies will be guided on the basis of what the neighbour will do", said Mr Vajpayee without naming any country. "But we want peace and harmony because there is no alternative to it. In the age of atom bombs, there is no way to resolve problems other than through peaceful means", Mr Vajpayee said at a function here on the eve of birth anniversary of the Jain saint Lord Mahavir.

He further said, "let us assess the situation evolving in our neighbourhood", adding, "we want peace but violence is on the rise. At least, we can abjure violence from our personal lives and shed anger".

"I am talking about personal life and not national life", he maintained. Mr Vajpayee said India had to become strong and acquire such a position that it was able to ensure its own well being and that of others too.

"Today we must think on these lines", he added.-APP
