ISLAMABAD, March 13: The Central Board of Revenue has blacklisted 139 registered taxpayers in textile sectors for issuing fake invoices and committing tax frauds.

An official at the CBR told Dawn on Saturday that tax officials had blacklisted 101 taxpayers in Punjab for committing frauds involving an amount of Rs314.425 million and pertaining invoices of input taxes issued to the claimants; 37 in Sindh involving an amount of Rs451.648 million; and one in the NWFP involving an amount of Rs0.01 million.

The blacklisted textile-related registered persons included: weavers, processors and cement manufacturers.

According to the official, under the provision of the Sales Tax Law 1990, the registered person was blacklisted if the collector was satisfied that he was found to have issued fake invoices, evaded tax or had committed tax fraud.

After blacklisting, show-cause notice for recovery of evaded tax is issued. Further action is taken in the light of adjudicating order passed in the case, added the official.
