HYDERABAD, March 12: Despite a fist fight between EDO education and a group of teachers in Jacobabad and arrests of some leaders of the Government Secondary Teachers Association in Shikarpur , annual examinations of class IX and X continued in different districts of Sindh on Friday.

GSTA president Ghani Kumbhar in a statement advised the government to solve teachers' problems instead of compelling them to resort to extreme measures.

A token hunger strike was also observed by teachers under banners of different teachers associations outside the press club.

GSTA members took out a procession and raised slogans and staged a sit-in on the Risala road.

JACOBABAD: A fist fight took place between GSTA leaders and EDO education Abid Jakhrani outside the Habib Bank on Friday.

The EDO went to the bank for collecting examination papers of class IX where GSTA leaders Nazir Umrani, Hassan Soomro, Lutfullah Sarki and others allegedly exchanged hot words with the EDO and attempted to snatch bundles of papers. They tore some of them.

Private school teachers, clerks of revenue, tapedars, staff of EDO works supervised examinations in the district.

At girls schools lady health workers were deputed as invigilators. GSTA leaders accused the EDO of resorting to firing with a TT pistol when they exchanged blows.

KHAIRPUR: The GSTA continued its protest on fifth day on Friday and did not perform invigilation duties. Headmasters of schools and private teachers supervised examinations.

NAWABSHAH: The GSTA continued boycott of board's examinations to press for acceptance of their demands on Friday.

SHIKARPUR: Secondary teachers boycotted examinations of class IX and X in the district.

Headmasters of secondary schools, teachers of private schools and tapedars were deputed to supervise examinations at all the centres in the district.

The Stuart Ganj police arrested some of GSTA leaders, whose names could not be ascertained. The police baton charged teachers who went to police station demanding release of arrested leaders.

MIRPURKHAS: The GSTA members continued their boycott of class IX and X annual examination on Friday for acceptance of their demands.

DADU: Teachers boycotted examinations in Dadu district on Friday to protest non-acceptance of their demands.
