MIRPURKHAS, Feb 28: The District Public Safety Commission, which met here on Saturday under the chairmanship of Abdul Rehman Sarhandi, reviewed in detail the procedure of resolving complaints of the people.

The meeting decided to hear complaints and hold inquiries regarding police excesses and appointed woman member Dr Robi Dharamdas to help in resolving women's problems.

The chairman said DPSC officials had been conferred with the powers of justice of peace and, therefore, people should submit their written complaints against police excesses to them.

MALARIA: The malaria department organized two separate camps at the Pithoro and Umerkot basic health units on Saturday to test blood samples of suspected malaria patients.

A team of doctors from Hyderabad attended to the patients, said a handout while health department officials sprayed mosquito killers at different places in Pithoro town.

HIGHWAYMAN: A highwayman was injured while trying to snatch a truck from the Jarwari Shakh, Mirpurkhas taluka, late on Friday night.

A Karachi-bound truck was parked by the canal when accused Ghulam Hussain tried to snatch it. He lost control and the truck collided with a tractor trolley and turned turtle causing injuries to him. He was taken to the Mirpurkhas Civil Hospital.

The taluka police have lodged a case against him.

MEASURES: Action was demanded against quacks and those doctors who were utilizing used syringes, at a meeting presided over by District Nazim Shafqat Hussain Jilani here the other day.

The meeting reviewed the health department's efforts for prevention of malaria and facilities provided by the government.

The Nazim directed the doctors to launch an awareness programme against malaria in rural areas.

The additional health secretary advised doctors to conduct tests of all patients complaining of fever.
