Lankan PM accused of 'war mongering'

COLOMBO, Feb 28: Sri Lanka's new opposition alliance on Friday accused Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe of trying to create a 'war psychosis' ahead of April 2 polls.

Mr Lakshman Kadirgamar, a senior leader of the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) said: "We wish to reaffirm that the Freedom Alliance stands firmly with a view to bringing about a final political solution to the ethnic problem".

Mr Wickremesinghe, addressing his United National Party (UNP) inaugural rally on Thursday, had warned that the ongoing ceasefire with the LTTE would be endangered in the event of the Freedom Alliance gaining victory.
