RAWALPINDI, Feb 21: The government should implement the Anti-Terrorism Act in letter and spirit and maintain law and order in the country during Muharram.

This was stated by Tehrik Nefaz Fiqah-i-Jafariya (TNFJ) chief Agha Syed Hamid Ali Shah Mausavi, while speaking at a press conference here on Saturday.

He also asked the government to fully implement the May 21, 1985, Junejo-Mausavi agreement in connection with bringing out mourning procession during the holy month.

Mr Mausavi also called for setting up of Azadari cells by the interior and religious affairs ministries in the federal capital, provinces, Azad Kashmir and Northern areas. The cells should be publicized through media so that any possible problems faced by the mourners can be solved. Moreover, the cells should keep a close liaison with the Central Muharram Committee of the TNFJ, he maintained.

He said the district administrations throughout the country should be directed to cooperate with mourners and organizers of Majalis.

The TNFJ chief said special arrangements for cleanliness and lights should be made at the places of Majalis-i-Aza and mourning procession routes. He said all Muslims were brethren, therefore, preaching of biases should be prohibited during Muharram.

In case of any untoward incident, he said, the issue might be resolved through contacting the local administration and the local Muharram committee of the TNFJ.

The central Muharram committee of the TNFJ may be approached if the issue remains unresolved. He said all schools of thought should preach their faith and ideologies in a positive manner.

He also asked the countrymen to keep a strict eye on the enemies of Islam and the motherland, and shun hatred, enmity and biases.

Ulema, Waizeen and Zakireen should give priority to unity and brotherhood, while electronic and print media should highlight the sacrifices of martyrs of Karbala in an effective manner, he maintained.
