SANGHAR, Feb 14: Thou-sands of people have failed to get their names registered in voter lists in the district due to lack of awareness and ineffective publicity by the government.

The task of gathering information and issuance of receipts in this regard had been entrusted to schoolteachers in every union council.

The people had to provide relevant information/documents to the teachers and get duly signed receipts. They also had to appear in courts of senior civil judges of respective talukas as a civil judge of a taluka had been empowered to register or reject a name.

Since the people could not appear in the courts as they had not been given a date, forms of about 90 per cent prospective voters were rejected.

Advocate Mehboob Ahmad Channa, Wazeer Panhwar, councillor Tahira and other people have appealed to the government to look into the matter and extend the registration date and make the procedure easy.
