KARACHI, Jan 24: The Board of Intermediate Education is taking various steps for improving sports and academics at college level. "They must go together, as both are equally important for the students," said BIE chairman Iftikhar Hussain Zaidi while speaking as chief guest at the annual function of the Renaissance Campus of The Educators School at UBL Sports Complex here on Saturday.
The BIE chairman said that the intermediate board was particularly taking steps to improve examination system. He pointed out that examination papers must be scrutinized by trained teachers. The board was planning to organize training workshops for examiners in this regard.
He said the board had also planned to improve the assessment system for which funds had been allocated. He said this exercise would be carried out with the cooperation of provincial education department.
Mr Zaidi said that deliberations had been held among the educationists and chairmen of various boards of education in the country for evolution of academic and examination systems. However, he said, all this would be evolutionary and carried out gradually. He said that abrupt and radical changes would be vulnerable.
Regarding sports, he said that various committees had been formed to plan and bring about improvement. He also referred to various inter-collegiate tournaments organized both for boys and girls. He said that college girls were leaving Karachi on Sunday for Islamabad to participate in the inter-board tournaments in different games.
Referring to the performance given by school students at the annual function of the Renaissance Campus, he described the same as outstanding and said that such students would shoulder the future responsibilities of the country and the nation.
He lauded the role being played by the private sector in the field of education and said the government alone could not achieve all the goals.
Earlier, the School Director, Aamir Qureshi, welcomed the chief guest and highlighted the performance of the school in the domain of sports and academics.
The annual function was attended by sportsmen like former flying horse, Samiullah, ex-fast bowler Jalaluddin, renowned spinner and selector Iqbal Qasim, fast bowler Mohammed Sami, besides, a galaxy of people from various walks of life and parents of the students. - APP
