HYDERABAD, Jan 10: Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences vice-chancellor Prof Jan Mohammad Memon has said the 20th century has seen a lot of progress in medical sciences, especially in the field of surgery.

Speaking at the inaugural session of the ninth two-day annual meeting of the Pakistan Association of Plastic Surgeons on Saturday, he said this progress had resulted in the emergence of several new disciplines and added that plastic surgery was one of such disciplines.

According to schedule, 50 specialists and experts will read their papers and deliver lectures on plastic surgery.

The vice-chancellor pointed out that previously patients of burns and accident injuries were treated by general surgeons but now trained surgeons were available.

He said the number of qualified surgeons was increasing as higher institutions were making efforts to produce trained plastic surgeons.
