MAKKAH, April 20: Hosts Saudi Arabia emerged on top in the first Islamic Countries Solidarity Games with a tally of 59 medals. They won 23 gold, 17 silver and 19 bronze, besides qualifying for the football final which was to be played against Morocco in Makkah on Wednesday evening. Egypt came second on the medals table with 42 medals, including 14 gold.

Kazakhstan with 13 gold medals came third while Iran with (10 gold), Iraq (nine), Morocco (eight) and Malaysia (five) earned the fourth to seventh positions respectively.

Pakistan was placed at the 11th position with three gold and one bronze medals - all in tennis.

Pakistan took part in 10 of 14 events.

In volleyball, Pakistan managed to qualify for the quarterfinals and defeated Morocco. But it was ousted after suffering defeats at the hands of Egypt.

In all 54 countries took part in the games, and 32 of them featured on the medals table.
