ISLAMABAD April 20: Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) will build championship courts in three major cities of Rawalpindi, Karachi and Quetta to provide an opportunity to organize mega squash events. Speaking to the media on Wednesday at Pakistan Sports Complex, the Secretary PSF Wing Commander M Zulfiqar Ahmed said that Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz in his recent meeting with the junior squash players, coaches and officials has announced a hefty amount of Rs. 40 million for updating the squash infrastructure in the country.

He said PSF has allocated Rs 1 million each for Rawalpindi Squash Complex and Karachi Squash courts while Rs. 2 million will be spent on the construction of a brand new “squash complex” at Quetta (Balochistan).

The Rawalpindi Squash Courts at Liaquat Bagh is in miserable condition since 2002, when heavy floods destroyed almost the whole Liaquat Bagh Sports Complex.

Karachi has no court which prevents Sindh Squash Association to hold any international event and Balochistan still lacks any international standard squash infrastructure.—PPI
