KARACHI, April 20: On suggestion of the WHO and the Unicef, City Nazim Niamatullah Khan has asked officials to form a committee at town level, which will meet every month regularly and review the results and effects of polio campaign. Presiding a meeting, held to review the hurdles in success of polio campaign here at Civic Centre, he said that three-day polio campaign in the metropolis would kick off from April 26 and the city government was there to cooperate for success of the campaign.

DCO Fazlur Rehman, EDO Health Dr Khalid Shaikh, Project Director Dr Ali Nawaz Shaikh, Dr Nargis Tariq, Dr Laila Rizvi of Unicef, Dr Azmoudeh of the WHO and representatives of police, health departments and NGOs also attended the meeting.

The meeting urged town and union council nazims to extend all possible help in Liaquatabad, SITE, Lyari, Gulshan-i-Iqbal towns. It was noticed that people residing in high-rise buildings especially in posh areas did not cooperate with polio teams for getting administered polio vaccine to their children.

The nazim said that the city government was already helping to eradicate polio from the city and UC nazims were also cooperating with polio teams. “Polio has been well controlled in Pakistan and only four cases have been reported till to date this year. That is a good sign,” he remarked.

Niamatullah Khan emphasized to create awareness among public and polio vaccine must be administered children, especially residing in slum areas.

COMPLAIN CENTRE: City Nazim Niamatullah Khan on Wednesday inaugurated the public complaint centre at the ground floor of City Government Secretariat at Civic Centre where people could register complaints with regard to 16 departments of city government.

DCO Fazlur Rehman, EDO IT Mushtaq Rizvi, International Transparency Chairman Nooruddin Shaikh, DOs Mumtazul Huq, Kamal Ahmed Siddiqi, Khalid Fahim and others were also present on the occasion.

People could submit their complaints at the centre in writing and these would be computerized by IT department. Besides, people could also lodge their complaints through website www.karachicity.gov.pk and could see the action taken thereof on the web.

Niamatullah Khan said that this was the age of information technology and changes were taking place in every field of life through IT. He appreciated the cooperation of the International Transparency and said that they did not charge anything for any work of city government.

In order to redress public complaints, he said, the computerized complaint centre had been linked with a group of 16 officers and soon this system would be linked with towns as well. He said that it would be the responsibility of EDOs to redress citizen’s complaints and inform the complainant on the website.

The nazim said that the IT department would submit monthly report to DCO and to him so that they could monitor the whole exercise. He pointed out that all departments of city government were the offices for public liaison.

“Our entire effort is to see that people are benefited and their day to day matters are expeditiously disposed of,” Niamatullah Khan said and exhorted the staff to work for solving the civic problems with all efficiency.

He appealed to the people to make written complaints and immediate action will be taken thereon. He claimed that not a single complaint he received ever went into cold storage.

EDO Information Technology Mushtaq Rizvi said that at the Civic Centre, 500 points would be given with central server while computerized cards of over 100,000 city government employees would be produced so that the issue of their seniority could be resolved. — PPI/APP
