MIRPURKHAS, April 16: Sindh Assembly Speaker Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah has called for provision of certified seeds, fertilizers and availability of water in the province

to increase per acre yield of crops.

He was speaking as chief guest at a seminar on the ‘Profitable cotton cultivation’ held under the Farm Advisory Centre of Fauji Fertilizer Company Limited at the State Life Auditorium here on Saturday.

He said that cotton crop could play an important role to Improve our economy and added that during the last two decades a revolution had taken place in the agriculture sector in the country as modern technology had replaced conventional method of cultivation.

He said that modern technology included usage of certified seeds, high quality fertilizer, land levelling through modern agriculture equipments, the growers were making efforts to increase per-acre yield.

He asked the agriculture department to provide modern technology knowledge, literature and result of research to field assistants who could provide it to growers at their doorsteps.

He advised the government to set up agriculture facility board at the district level and include representatives of growers to resolve grievances of growers at local level. He further said that the growers of Mirpurkhas division were deprived of certified seeds and facing shortage of fertilizers.

He lamented that cotton sowing continued in Mirpurkhas region but Nitrophast and SSP fertilizers were not available in the local market while DAP Fertilizer was available at an enhanced price.
