KARACHI, March 31: Sindh Minister for Education and Literacy, Dr Hamida Khuhro, and British Council Director Charlie Walker have agreed to work closely to address the education- related problems in Sindh.

These include the heavy drop-out and out-of-school children’s ratio, quality education in public sector institutions, enhancing of girls education etc under the strategy for education in Sindh, said a statement here on Thursday.

It said the decision to this effect was made at a meeting held at the office of Dr Khuhro.

The Deputy Director of British Council, Karachi, Ms Samina Khan also took part in the discussion.

On the occasion, both sides discussed the papers written by Dr Khuhro to give outlines for the Sindh’s education strategy.

Mr Walker also referred to the analysis of these papers carried out by the UK’s education specialist Peter Fell, Regional Education Adviser on South Asia Lynne Heslopp and Director British Council, Islamabad Andrew Picken.

Dr Khuhro told the British Council officials about her comprehensive head teachers and teacher training programme and said it had been planned that through the ongoing recruitment, those recruited would be provided training then they would be deployed in schools.

Mr Walker assured the minister of all possible technical and other required support for teacher training, revival of curricula and textbooks etc to give a boost to quality education in Sindh.—APP
