KARACHI, March 28: A youth was shot dead when he put up resistance to bandits in Korangi on Monday.

Imran Shaikh, 23, was intercepted by two bandits on a motorbike in Korangi. They demanded his mobile phone. As Imran offered resistance, and tried to flee, bandits shot at him and fled. Imran fell to the ground. People took him to a hospital immediately but doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Similarly, in New Karachi, Mohammad Arshad, 30, was having tea at a roadside restaurant, when two bandits asked him to hand them over his mobile phone. Arshad resisted, on which bandits shot at him and made off with the phone. Arshad was admitted to a hospital.

In Malir, bandits intercepted Fawad, 19, near Jamia Millia, Malir, and snatched his mobile phone. As Fawad resisted, he was shot at. The bandits fled with the phone. Fawad was later admitted to a hospital.

ACCIDENT: A centenarian woman died after being hit by a train while she was crossing tracks near City Station.

Fatima was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where she succumbed to her injuries. In a road accident, a youth died and his friend was injured when a minibus hit them in Surjani Town.

Amir, 22, and Sarwar, were on their motorbike when a minibus of route (D-17) hit them. The two fell to the ground. Amir received serious head injuries. Both the injured were taken to a hospital where Amir was pronounced dead on arrival.

BANK ROBBERY: Gunmen stormed into a bank branch in New Karachi, held the staff and visitors hostage at gunpoint, and decamped with more than Rs0.5 million, besides prize bonds and official weapons from police guards.

According to police, robbers entered a private bank branch in Sector 11-D, of New Karachi, snatched official weapons from police guards Maqsood and Bhai Khan, and a private security guard. They held the staff and visitors hostage at gunpoint, collected Rs5,25,425 besides prize bonds worth Rs20,000 and fled.

CLASH: As many as three students were injured in a clash between two students groups at Jinnah College.

The injured were identified as Saifullah, Hayat and Usman. They were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
