LAHORE, May 30: The Punjab government has principally agreed to open a medical college in the Services Hospital in September-October this year. The college will offer 100 seats on a self-finance basis.

This was stated by Postgraduate Medical Institute and Services Hospital principal executive officer Prof Shamim Ahmad Khan while speaking at a news conference here on Thursday.

He said that the students having Pakistani nationality would be charged Rs300,000 per year, while foreign students would be required to pay $10,000 fee per year.

He said that he was holding negotiations with the Malaysian government to allocate its 50 per cent seats for their students.

Prof Khan said the hospital was also opening a facio-maxillary unit and an eye OPD.

Announcing a package for ward patients, Prof Khan said the hospital was planning to supply all required material without asking for service charges. Under this package, he said the patient would be required to deposit an amount of Rs2,000 to Rs2,500 in the hospital. He said that this package deal would help reduce the inconveniences for patients’ attendants.

Prof Khan also said that emergency cover was being provided to all patients irrespective of the fact whether it was a medico-legal case without any delay.
