KHAIRPUR, May 30: The Khairpur police have arrested a bandit having Rs250,000 head money, Hafeez Phulpoto, in an “encounter” near here on Thursday.

SHO, Babburloi received the information about the presence of Hafeez at the western side of Khedo Goth road and rushed to the site with a police squad.

When the police team reached near the spot, the bandits opened fire on them, which they returned.

As a result of firing, Hafeez was injured and arrested while his accomplices escaped. The police recovered a Kalashnikov and two magazines from his possession.

Hafeez was wanted by police in several cases of murder, robbery, police encounter and others.

BODY: A body was found from agricultural fields near Shah Hussain Chowk at the National Highway bypass here on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Qasim Shaikh alias Shaloo, resident of Malhi village of Kingri taluka’s kutcha area.

On Wednesday night another body was found from a sugarcane field in the jurisdiction of the Tando Masti police.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Wahab Wassan, resident of Kot Diji taluka.

PROTEST: Scores of growers and councillors took out a procession and staged a sit-in on Hingorja-Mehrabpur link road against acute water shortage in Hingorja Samaj Minor on Thursday.

CONGRATULATIONS: The District Council of Khairpur has congratulated the scientists and experts of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission for their successful experiments of Ghauri and Abdali missiles.

On a motion tabled by a lady councillor, Sughra Majeed Shaikh, the council passed the resolution. The council also demanded extension of date in procurement of wheat.
