ISLAMABAD, May 30: The information technology and telecom division will set up a university of IT and management sciences at Quetta.

According to a press release issued here on Thursday, Rs39 million has been allocated by the ministry for the first phase of the project.

The president during his visit to Quetta in March 2001 had announced the establishment of an IT university for Balochistan. The provincial cabinet approved the building of directorate of primary education for establishment of the university.

The ordinance of the university has been vetted by the Balochistan law department and has been sent to the University Grants Commission for no objection certificate.

In the first phase, classes will be started only at the bachelors level in computer sciences, IT and management faculties. The university will run bachelors and masters degree programmes in computer sciences, IT, computer engineering, management sciences and electronics departments. It will annually produce more than 1,000 professionals.
