KARACHI, March 16: An anti-terrorism court reserved on Wednesday judgment of a case against two activists of the banned Hizbul Tehreer, a Palestine-based organisation.

Judge Arshad Noor Khan of the ATC-3 fixed Thursday for the pronouncement of verdict after hearing final arguments from special public prosecutor Naimat Ali Randhawa and defence counsel Sultan Mehmood. The special public prosecutor prayed the court to award maximum punishment to the accused as the prosecution had established its case against them beyond any reasonable doubt.

They were arrested in front of the Lal Masjid at Paposhnagar, Nazimabad, after Juma prayers.

He contended that the two activists of the banned outfit were caught red-handed while carrying out party activities despite ban. They were arrested on Oct 29, 2004, as they were about to take out a procession for Iraqi Muslims and three banners and four posters, inscribed with pro-Iraq and anti-American slogans were seized from them.

The defence, however, prayed the court that the defendants be acquitted as the case of the prosecution was full of contradictions. He submitted that nothing was seized from the accused.
