LAHORE, March 13: PTCL failed in their bid to take first innings lead as a fine century by Riffatullah Mohmand further consolidated Habib Bank’s grip in the second semifinal of the Patron’s Trophy at the Qadhafi Stadium on Sunday.

Riffat hit 147 as the bankers ended the third day at 323 for six to extend their overall advantage to 348. The opener, who struck 24 boundaries during his 247-ball innings, was involved in two century partnerships.

Farhan Adil (60 off 99 balls with seven fours) helped Riffat added 117 for the third wicket. Then skipper Hasan Raza, continuing his fine form with 11 fours and one six in an elegant unbeaten 70, put on 129 for the fifth wicket.

Paceman Riaz Afridi captured five for 112 in the bankers’ second innings to take his match haul to nine.

Resuming at 276 for nine, PTCL managed just five runs before their first innings came to an end at 281, while responding to the bankers’ 306.

Shahzad remained undefeated with 127 as last man Waqar Ahmed provided medium-pacer Shahid Nazir with his fifth wicket.
