SSC outgun CC to grab TT title

LAHORE, March 13: Super Star Club (SSC) outplayed Chroma Club (CC) 3-1 to win the team event final of Chromatex Invitational table tennis tournament on Sunday.

International Asim Qureshi (SSC) beat Bilal Yasin (CC) 11-8, 11-2, 11-3 in the first singles. Imran Javed (CC) restored the parity edging out Masood 11-3, 6-11, 11-4, 11-5.

Bilal and Imran put CC 2-1 ahead thrashing the pair of Aasim and Masood 11-4, 5-11, 11-6, 11-7. Bilal defeated Masood 11-3, 11-4, 11-5 to complete his victory.

Jehangir Khan (Wapda) and Bilal Yasin (Wapda) qualified for the men’s singles finals.

Jehangir defeated former national champion Aasim (ABL) 11-9, 11-13, 8-11, 12-14, 16-14, 11-9, 11-9 in the best of seven first semifinals.

Bilal earned a 4-0 win against Awais Mukhtar 11-9, 11-6, 11-4, 11-6.

Yasmeen Akhtar (Lahore) and national junior champion Kanwal Khan (Punjab University) entered the women’s singles final.

Yasmin beat Ayesha Iqbal (PU) 3-2 (11-5, 11-3, 6-11, 8-11, 11-7), while Kanwal carved out a 3-1 win over Rabia Shaheen (Jhelum) 11-8, 11-6, 8-11, 11-9.

Men’s singles semifinals: Jehangir Khan (Wapda) bt Aasim Qureshi (ABL) 11-9, 11-13, 8-11, 12-14, 16-14, 11-9, 11-9; Bilal Yasin (Wapda) bt Awais Mukhtar (PU) 11-9, 11-6, 11-4, 11-6.

Women’s singles semifinals: Yasmin Akhtar (Lahore) bt Ayesha Iqbal (PU) 11-5, 11-3, 6-11, 8-11, 11-7; Kanwal Khan bt Rabia Shaheen (Jhelum) 11-8, 11-6, 8-11, 11-9.
