Contractors to pay for car damage

Published March 14, 2005

LAHORE, March 13: District Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood has said that contractors lifting cars from no-parking zones are liable for compensating owners for the damage caused owing to carelessness.

Expressing concern over complaints being lodged by car owners regarding excesses of contractors during a meeting at the Jinnah Hall here, the Nazim said the city district government had not given contractors a licence to lift vehicles from everywhere or damage them by rough handling.

He said contractors were authorized to lift vehicles parked only from areas declared as no-parking zones by the CDG. No parking signs were required to be displayed at all such places by the public facilities department.

The Nazim directed the district officer (public facilities) to take action on complaints against the car-lifting contractors and order payment of compensation in case of damage caused to vehicles.

Seraiki culture: The Seraiki Qaumi Rabita Council has demanded establishment of a separate organization for promotion of Seraiki language, literature and culture.

Seraiki speaking writers voiced the demand at a reception hosted by the Seraiki Sangat, Lahore, for the recipients of the Academy of Letters Awards on Sunday.

They were of the view that Seraiki language, literature and culture was not likely to be protected by the establishment of the Punjab Institute of Language and Culture. The establishment of the institute might cause a sense of deprivation among the Seraiki writers as had happened in case of Bengali in the past, they apprehended.
