KARACHI, March 13: The city government is considering implementing a proposal regarding the privatization of garbage collection in Karachi to help improve cleanliness, said a city government press release on Monday.

The city nazim, Niamatullah Khan, in a meeting with a five-member Turkish delegation headed by Otif Ozbey, said the city government was keen to turn Karachi into a model city with major focus on cleanliness.

The Turkish delegation on the occasion elaborated before the Karachi nazim procedures adopted in Turkey, where garbage was collected at night with the help of small and heavy machinery.

The delegation expressed its deep interest in the varied development projects planned for Karachi.

While, internationally renowned Egyptian Qari, Hasham Abdul Basit met the city nazim at his office the other day. Qari Hasham is the son of renowned reciter of the Holy Quran, Qari Abdul Basit, and is visiting Pakistan for the first time.

Coordinator, Majlis-i-Islami Qari Saifullah Madni and Qari Sadaqat Ali were also present.

He would also be going to Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Lahore and Islamabad and would hold recital sessions of the Holy Quran there.

Disabled youth assisted: The city nazim, Niamatullah Khan, handed a three-wheeled motorbike to a handicap youth, Azhar Khan, in an informal ceremony.

The recipient, a resident of Bukhari Colony, Manghopir, had written a letter to the city nazim, mentioning that he was without feet and that he did not want to take up begging. Hence, he be supported in a way that would enable him to lead a dignified life.

Mr Niamat, taking note of the request, arranged a motored tricycle with necessary support so that Azhar could start a business or some self-employed activity.

The tricycle was handed to Azhar Khan in the presence of Nazim Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town Abdul Wahab, Adviser to city nazim Abdul Rashid Beg and others.

The nazim appreciated the spirit of the disabled youth.—APP
