KARACHI, March 11: Sindh Minister for Population Welfare Syed Ali Bux Shah on Friday directed the concerned authorities to resolve the problems being faced by the women serving in the department on a priority basis and arrange their postings in the areas nearest to their homes so that they could perform their duties in a better manner.

The minister said that more measures would be taken to improve performance of the department in the implementation of President Pervez Musharraf’s policies.

He made it clear that inactive staff of his department would not be tolerated and competent and honest employees would be encouraged.

Meanwhile, talking to newsmen in his office, Mr Shah, who is also Senior Vice-President of the Sindh PML, said that resolving people’s problems was the provincial government’s topmost priority. He said that basic facilities would be provided to the masses at their doorsteps.

Refuting claims of a crisis, he declared: “Neither general elections are being held this year, nor is the Sindh government being replaced. In this regard, he pointed out that Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, during his recent visit to Karachi, had expressed satisfaction over the provincial government’s performance.

About the Arbab-Imtiaz row, he said that the prime minister’s inspection team was continuing its probe into the matter and all facts in this regard would be made public.

“It would be better for us to wait for a final report of the inspection team instead of indulging in arguments on the matter,” he added.—PPI
