KARACHI, March 8: The Sindh government has constituted a steering committee for Tameer-i-Karachi Programme. According to an official notification, the chief secretary will act as chairman of the committee.

Additional chief secretary development, additional chief secretary local government, city nazim, principal secretary to governor, secretary to chief minister, secretary finance, chairmen/ nominees of Karachi Port Trust, Export Processing Zone Authority, Pakistan Steel Mills, PIA, Export Promotion Bureau, representatives of Corps Headquarters, DCO, KWSB Managing Director, EDO Water and Sewerage, representatives of KESC, PTCL, SSGC and Tameer-i-Karachi Project Director would be the committee members.

As per terms of reference, the committee will provide leadership guidance and operational level support for achievement of milestones as contained in the package. It will device mechanism, modalities and procedures for attending to all issues pertaining to smooth implementation of the package. Besides, the committee will recommend the overall planning of the package and approval of individual scheme.

To provide interaction with stakeholders/ financiers; liaison with provincial and federal governments; review the progress and implementation of schemes; and recommendations for releasing the finances at different stages of the packages will be the responsibilities of the committee.

Meanwhile, Sindh government also constituted a committee to monitor the quality of river water and identify reasons of its contamination. The committee will be headed by additional chief secretary, Local Government, while secretaries of the Irrigation and Power, and Environment departments will be its members. -APP
