KARACHI, March 8: An Excise inspector, Naqi Abbas Naqvi, 42, was gunned down in Gulbahar on Tuesday when he was heading towards his home from work in Hasan Colony. As Naqvi slowed down his motorcycle on a speed-breaker, unknown persons on a motorcycle shot him in the head.

Following the incident two vehicles were set on fire in Gulbahar by the enraged people. Police said the bullet pierced through his head. Police said the victim was attacked from the back and he died on the spot. Police shifted the body to Abbasi Hospital.

Apart from being an inspector in the Excise Department, Naqvi was Vice president of an Azadari Anjuman and trustee of the Imambargah Masoomeen. After the incident, area youth took to streets and forced closure of shops. Golimar sanitary market and others markets in Gulbahar remained closed throughout the day. A minibus of route (G-19) and a Suzuki van were set on fire at Sir Syed College.
