PESHAWAR, March 4: NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani on Friday constituted committees to make arrangements for an investment conference being organized by the government here on March 14-15.

The conference, which will be attended also by foreign investors, has been planned to attract investment by highlighting business opportunities offered by the Frontier province.

Presiding over a meeting, the chief minister asked provincial secretaries to make elaborate arrangements for the conference and provide maximum facilities to local and foreign delegates during their stay in the provincial metropolis, says a handout issued here on Friday.

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz is likely to preside over the concluding session of the two-day event, which would the first of its kind in the NWFP. The meeting discussed various aspects of the conference and decided to constitute committees on protocol, media and other chapters to make arrangements for the event.

Mr Durrani will inaugurate the conference on March 14. The meeting was informed that foreign delegates had shown great interest in the conference and confirmation from some countries had been received. The meeting also finalized a list of chairmen for different sessions of the conference.

The chief minister directed for making perfect arrangements for the event and asked for putting in place a foolproof security plan. He also directed the authorities concerned to extend exemplary protocol to delegates, besides providing them necessary facilities.

The provincial government, the handout said, would also organize an exhibition on the sidelines of the conference to promote natural potential of the province. The chief minister directed the authorities concerned to involve the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation, tourism, industries and other departments to highlight tourism potential of the province.

Fifteen commercial attaches of foreign embassies were expected to participate in the conference, the handout added. The chief minister also directed Provincial Industries Minister Malik Zafar Azam to hold a press conference to apprise business community and general public about the investment conference.

He said the Frontier province offered tremendous investment potential in hydel power, water, mineral and tourism sectors. The chief minister directed that special committees should meet daily to monitor arrangements for the conference.
