MIRPURKHAS, March 1: The second additional district and sessions judge granted bail on Tuesday to four police personnel in a sum of Rs100,000 each.

Former SHO Satellite Town police station, inspector Rafique Siyal, sub-inspector Khamiso Khan, ASI Ghulam Shabbir Dasti and constable Mohammad Aslam were arrested in a case lodged against them following custodial death of a suspect Abu Bakar Panhwar on Jan 25. The challan of the case was submitted before the judicial magistrate-I after deleting the section 302 PPC during investigation of the case.

DETAINED HARIS: Around 200 people, including peasants and NGOs activists, under the banner of the Green Rural Development Organization, started a long march from Naokot on Tuesday, demanding release of family members of a peasant from the captivity of a landlord.

The marchers, led by leftist leader Jam Saqi, Ghulam Hussain Malkani and Dr Nihal Chand, stayed for the night in Amb Bheel village of Digri taluka and would resume the march on Wednesday.

They told journalists in Jhuddo that the family of Mannu Bheel used to work on agriculture land of a landlord in the Sanghar area and 10 of them had been detained there for compulsory labour. They deplored that police had failed to secure their release from the unlawful detention and called on the Sindh government to ensure their release.
